How To Glue Down Floor Transition Strips

Mark the floor where the transition strip is to be located taking care to allow for any required expansion space as specified by the flooring manufacturer.

How to glue down floor transition strips. Step 2 apply a 1 4 inch wide line of construction adhesive to the bottom of the transition strip where it will rest on the concrete. Then press it onto the floor. You can attach the transition in one of two ways. If you are using liquid nails apply a bead of the liquid nails to the underside of the transition.

Step 5 press the t molding into the gap firmly ensuring that the top of the molding rests firmly on each floor with no gaps. Place the transition strip in the expansion joint and press down firmly. A seam binder is installed by simply positioning the strip over the seam then driving screws through pre dilled pilot holes in the strip to secure it to the subfloor in the gap between the floors. Apply a 1 4 inch bead of flooring or construction adhesive along the center of the expansion joint.

You can glue it to the floor with liquid nails or you could use the track that comes with it to attach it. Use construction adhesive if you glue it and 2 inch finish nails if you nail it. Loose transition on a teragren floor can be a problem. Step 7 place several large strips of painter s tape across the t molding to hold it down while the glue dries.

Step 6 use a damp cloth to remove any excess glue. Glue or nail the strip to the subfloor if it doesn t have a track. Because it is attached to neither floor each floor can expand and contract without cracking the transition strip.
